Preparedness Now - TV Documentary

It's Hurricane Season in CT

That is one of the most likely emergencies that will occur here in addition to the common Snow and Ice Storms which will knock power out for a few days.

One thing that is not thought of here on the east coast is Earthquakes... but our mountains were formed by the tectonic plates moving. Unlike the west coast, the east coast does not normally feel earthquakes so it is not an emergency that we normally get prepared for.

Most of us do not have earthquake insurance but in recent years we have had earthquakes that we here have felt them - There was one earthquake a couple of years ago that actually affected monuments down in Washington DC...

So it might do you just a bit of good to give your insurance agent to find out how much a rider for earthquake insurance would cost you and do a walk though of your home to look at what could fall over or off the walls.

Take a few precautions to secure items to the walls and have some supplies in case the services and power grid are out for two or more weeks. Sandy & SnowTober Storm Alfred showed us just how long it can take for power to be restored.
